Dr. J.B. Banerji, a busy General Medical practitioner of Allahabad, started a part time initiative of providing rehabilitation appliances to the physically handicapped in a garage. He used scrap & local resources, including artisans, and started providing simple therapies and low-cost appliances to the poor and needy persons with disability.
Started in 1974 by Dr. Jyoti Bhushan Banerji (Padmashri), it was taken to newer heights by his son Dr. Bhasker Banerji- an Orthopaedic Surgeon of Repute, with significant experience in Rehabilitation, who gave shape and tangible developments in taking it towards sustainability and linking it with Modern Science and Technology, yet retain the ethos and cultural traditions of our country.

  • Land given possession to Viklang Kendra( now called JIMARS – Jyoti Divyang Punarwas Kendra) - -by the Uttar Pradesh State Government in 1978, on behest of the then Governor of UP, Dr. Maria Chenna Reddy., and the District Administration. Of Allahabad
  • 1981: Prime Ministers Relief Fund donated to start the building complex.
  • 1986: Viklang Kendra awarded the National award for the most outstanding services rendered to the disabled in India.
  • 1996:TEACHING AND Training Courses of REHABILITATION COUNCIL OF INDIA, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment,Govt.of India, Began
  • 2002: Founder late Dr. J.B. Banerji bestowed the Padmashri by the President of India.
  • 2002: Dr. Bhasker Banerji, the present Honorary Secretary/Director awarded the Arthur Eyre Brook Award in Orthopaedic Surgery by World Orthopaedic Concern.
  • 2006: Friends of JIMARS (Viklang Kendra) group formed.
  • 2007: Work on developing Reconstructive Surgery begins
  • 2009: Teaching & Training Centre gains momentum.
  • 2010: Viklang Kendra is renamed as JIMARS (Jyoti Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Sciences) in memory the Founder Padamshri Dr. J. B. Banerji. Late
  • 2014: The name was changed from Viklang Kendra, after the demise of Dr. J.B. Banerji, in order to commemorate his memory as the founder Padmashri Dr. JYOTI BHUSHAN BANERJI, the name JIMARS (Jyoti Institute of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Sciences) was given to the project.
  • 2015: Statue of Founder Padmashri Dr. J. B. Banerji made and put up, to be formally installed.
  • 2016 Onwards – recognized by RCI for more Courses
